Initially my client hoped to knock this kitchen through into a re-built utility room, but initial quotes for the work forced a re-think. In fact, by getting rid of a step in the floor (compensated for by raising the lean-to by one brick height and adding Veluxes) we didn’t have to work around the two floor heights dictating kitchen and dining areas, and they got the additional living space they had hoped for without expensive building work.

The original kitchen had a step into the Victorian back extension. The kitchen area was quite long, and the section near the garden too short for a dining table and any relaxed seating.

We took out the step and kept the kitchen layout (and some of the units) but shortened it. We added Velux lighting to the low sloped ceiling by the garden

No step meant so much more usable space

We used IKEA glass doors on custom cupboards and put lighting in and below them to keep the darker centre of the house light and bright

an old window into the utility room was turned into a display cupboard with lighting

Finally there was room for seating as well as a dining table

and although we couldn't move the boiler, we did manage to hide it and add even more display shelving.
