New Build Garden Room
This house had a beautiful south facing garden but a very dark kitchen with small french doors. We built a sun room with bifold windows that allow the whole garden in on a sunny day, whilst providing light and a deep windowsill for enjoying the garden all year round. The room is highly insulated and has underfloor heating and a backup radiator ensuring it will be warm all year round

Avoiding traditional French doors and building a huge bifold window allows my clients to open up into the garden in summer but sit by a deep plant filled windowsill and enjoy the garden in winter too. We put the door on the side of the room, with another deep windowsill for plants.

Not having doors here means a table and chairs can be comfortably sited by the best view in the house. "I don't think we'll ever have breakfast anywhere else", says the client.

BEFORE: even on a sunny day the kitchen felt dark

AFTER: bringing light in from a wider opening and skylights above as well as the big end window helped enormously. We also painted a wall outside the window above the sink white - this bounces more sunlight into the space which is transformed.
